  • It rolled over and died :( - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport

Bought this Explorer in 03. It averaged about 20 MPG (which, I think, is more than advertised). It was a little rattly - random noises that I didnt know where they were coming from. It drove well. I think the clutch was maybe starting to go out? It sometimes didnt want me to shift into 1st. But this last weekend it rolled - quite easily I might add. Though it is totaled, all passengers (including my puppy) are ok. So I guess thats a positive point about the car - it didnt kill us. The seatbelts held strong, and the frame didnt crush in too badly around us.

Tow a 19 boat often and is easy to maneuver at any ramp. Best suv Ford since the Bronco II....my Bii has 206,000 miles on same drive train, no oil use and still get 20 mpg.

This Ford explorer sport is my first SUV and first 4wd vehicle. The sport puts the driver in a commanding driving position. The handling is nimble and turning radius is very tight for a vehicle of this size. Build quality seems excellent and I havent found any real flaws or defects so far. The 2dr sport was a perfect choice for me and my wife. Our son is grown and we havent yet had a rear seat passengers. The 4dr explorer is simply way more truck than we need or want. Its very smooth on the highway. Quiet and stable, very comfortable and effortless to drive. Mileage runs about 15 in city and 19 highway.

We drive the explorer back and forth from AZ to CA. Great comfortable front seats, usually gets just over 20 mpg. 4 doors are more convenient but I like the look and solid feel of the 2 door. I get lots of compliments on the metallic red color.

  • serious saftey concern with shock rod - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport

I just bought a brandnew ford exporer from WESTWAY ford late saturday night in IRVING TEXAS. When we brought the explorer home that late night and then that early morning when we prssed the liftgate blue button on the remote the liftgate glass went up automaticly. And then the shock rod seperated from the glass fell resulting in it falling hard.Luckily no physical injuries. Addresed these concerns to FORD. People could seriously get injured , especially children. Also noticed defects in the rear left window.

  • Pleased W/ this one ! - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport

I have owned 16 different cars since I turned 16 years old. I am now 35. I can honestly say that I am enjoying this one more than any other! Why? Because it is exactly what it claims to be. A tough 4x4 truck w/ a rear hatch instead of a bed. It has plenty of power, great looks, commanding driver position, solid fit and finish and last but not least the stiff, taught ride a 4x4 should have! You get the feeling you are sacrificing the smooth cushy ride knowing you could go anywhere you want to in this capable Ford. If you want an easy riding sedan then go buy one. This one is for the rest of us! Great value and plenty of performance.

High performance vehicle--looks great! This vehicle has real power and acceleration--it does not hold back. Fords have always provided me with outstanding reliability and quality. This is the best SUV you will find for your money!

I recently purchased this vehicle and found both the dealership staff and the quality of Ford to have improved remakably since I last bought a Ford.

  • low maintenance & reliable vehicle - 2003 Ford Explorer Sport

02/2011 i took my 2003 ford explorer xls sport in on trade, for a street bike i had on craigslist. its my daily driver. i driven it all around florida, with friends. its very comfortable driving. i have a 5 speed manual & would have to admit it is fun to drive too. the 4.0L v6 has great power. especially, going through the 3:73 rear end in my truck. maintenance has been very minimal. i am mechanically incline. so, i service my own vehicles. i inspect it daily & services as needed. when i first got the truck i had several minor things to repair. due to previous owners neglect. one common problem with these vehicles is the coolant thermostat housing unit a dealer item $80. i would recommend!
